My girlfriends and I were sitting down the other day at lunch, talking about lots of things. Of course (as usual), the latest fashion trends and fads came up in our conversation. It’s funny because in this particular, close circle of friends, we all seem to be so different in so many ways, but yet remain to accept the differences within each other, and remain to be so close to one another. I guess, as we get older, we all understand more and more the importance of true friendship, and accept the fact that everyone single person will always have different opinions on every topic, and that’s okay.
We discussed the latest skinny jeans, and shared our views on the unfairness of the mirrors in dressing rooms these days. We all agreed on our disgust in the costs of all the fashion designers these days too. We spoke of the some of the trends going out, and the newer ones coming in for the spring of 2007. We compared ideas of what we’ve seen, what we’ve heard, what we like, and what we could do without. |
No one knows exactly how long a trend will stick around, but you can bet that the looks that are more difficult to pull off, (Uggs, large cuff jeans, and trucker hats) are just fads that will fade. Sometimes a consumer loves a look so much that they just won’t let it die. Capris, crops, tank tops, and flip flops are all examples of former trends which actually became wardrobe staples.
The best defense against quickly changing trends is to have a wardrobe stocked full of mostly classic looks. Jeans, T-shirts, blazers, and little black dresses are just a few. Use trendy items as an addition to a core wardrobe to give it some kick.
One fashion trend, which has stuck around for a while, are the use of leggings. We see leggings under skirts, under mini skirts, under dresses, over the top of over sized shirts, people even use them over the outside of coats, under shorts, etc.
Another thing we all agreed on was the use of belts by everyone these days. It doesn’t seem to matter what you are wearing, as people are adding belts as their main accessory with every single type of outfit. These days we see wide belts, skinny belts, braided belts, leather belts, sequined, metallic, etc. Some are tight against the waist, and others are hanging more loosely. We all agreed that with a wide array of belts in our closet, we could add to any outfit, and totally change the look and feel of it. Just as leggings can be worn with any type of outfit, so can belts.
Today people do not have to shop with Diesel, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani, and Juicy Couture to get a well made, good looking product. We are so lucky to have so many similar selections offered by designer look alikes, at a fraction of the cost. These items are made of the exact same quality, just without the designer tag attached. Are we so lame these days that we have to only buy items to fit in with our friends. My friends and I all agreed that we are tired of paying for the high priced, designer clothes and accessories, as we are only able to afford one or two of them at a time. We have vowed to stop trying to “fit in”, and will be ourselves, buy what we truly like, what we truly can afford, and have fun while doing it!
I am very excited to be a part of beltplanet.com, and am very excited about my daughter and I teaming up to show you different ways of accessorizing with belts. Every so often I will update with not only photos, but with articles too, so you can read about the newest trends, and keep your wardrobe updated with the most fashionable accessories. It doesn’t matter what age you are, as long as you continue having fun with everything that you do!
