ABOUT SWAROVSKI |
Daniel Swarovski founded the company with his brother-in-law Franz Weis and Armand Kosmann in 1895. The history behind the founding of the company is very intriguing.
Daniel Swarovski was born in Bohemia in the family of glass and crystal cutters. He honed his skills under the guidence of his father. An encounter with new manufacturing techniques by Siemens and Edison at the First Electrical Exhibition in Vienna, germinated the idea of creating technique for precision cutting of crystals in volume. It took him nine years to perfect the technique and patent his idea. His machine cutting technique was far more precise and provided consistent superior quality in comparison to contempory manual methods.
Using precision cutting machine was however not enough as the crystals available at that time, were not of the best and consistent quality. Daniel's son Wilhelm, Friedrich, and Alfred perfected the technique of creating flawless crystals over years, and by 1913 they were able to produce the best quality crystals cut with unparalleled cutting technique. This created very best jewelry stones and these crystals were coveted by many europeans. Parsians were particularly found of the stones and the earlier manufacturing was targeted to produce jewelry stones for this market.
Over the years Sworvski has introduced many innovative designs, techniques and transformed the crystal industry into high society darling. It can be seen in James Bond movies to apperal from high end fashion houses.
